Phonics

Our phonics classes help children master the building blocks of reading — recognising sounds, blending them into words, and reading with confidence. Each level is age-appropriate and designed for steady, visible progress.

Level 1: Early Phonics
(Ages 4 – 6)

Focus:
Sound recognition · Blending simple CVC words · Rhymes and stories

What children learn:

  • Identify letter sounds through play and song
  • Blend sounds to read short words
  • Develop early vocabulary and listening skills

Outcome:
Children begin decoding words and reading short sentences independently.

Level 2: Fluent Phonics
(Ages 6 – 8)

Focus:
Long vowels · Digraphs · Word families · Reading fluency

What children learn:

  • Decode longer, trickier words
  • Strengthen spelling and pronunciation
  • Build confidence reading storybooks aloud

Outcome:
Reading speed and accuracy improve dramatically.

Level 3: Advanced Phonics (Ages 8–10)

Focus:
Complex sound patterns · Syllable rules · Spelling mastery

What children learn:

  • Tackle multisyllabic words with ease
  • Understand word structure and spelling logic
  • Develop fluency for higher-level reading comprehension

Outcome:
Children read confidently and write with accuracy.

Grammar

Once children can read comfortably, grammar gives them the tools to write clearly and express themselves well. Our grammar levels introduce concepts step by step, through games, stories and sentence practice.

Level 1: Grammar Foundations (Ages 6–7)

Focus:
Parts of speech · Sentence structure · Capitalisation and punctuation

What children learn:

  • Build simple, correct sentences
  • Identify nouns, verbs, and adjectives
  • Use punctuation confidently

Outcome:
Children write short, clear sentences with good structure.

Level 2: Grammar Builders (Ages 7–9)

Focus:
Tenses · Subject-verb agreement · Articles and prepositions

What children learn:

  • Write paragraphs with correct grammar
  • Use tenses accurately
  • Strengthen sentence flow and coherence

Outcome:
Writing becomes more fluent and detailed.

Level 3: Grammar Masters (Ages 9–10)

Focus:
Advanced sentence types · Conjunctions · Creative writing structure

What children learn:

  • Combine sentences meaningfully
  • Use advanced grammar in writing and speech
  • Develop confident expression in storytelling and composition

Outcome:
Children gain the grammar and vocabulary base for middle-school success.
